Spunky's Super Special Weekend

Over the labor day weekend all me and my mom could talk about was Spunky and how we could get him out.  He didn't deserve to live in a tiny kennel the rest of his life.  So we decided that we would start an auction to pay his bill so he could go home.  I mentioned that I wish Dr. Flanary would just let me call his owner and tell her I would like to adopt him.  But that is just a dream.

Then on Thursday September 6th I was filling vaccines and Dr. Flanary said to me and I quote "Don't know if you want to or not but since we are closed this weekend to paint the kennels do you want to take Spunky home this weekend so I don't have to worry about him with the paint?"  I said OH YES I DO!  Then I told her about my auction idea to help pay his bill and the words out of her mouth shocked me to my core!  And I quote "If you want to do an auction that would be fine but if you like you can call and tell his owners that you are willing to take over his bill and adopt him if they will just surrender him".  I about fell out of my chair at that point.  I now had permission from Dr. Flanary to call his owner and tell her I wanted to adopt him.  OH MY DOG!  It was almost as if she knew what my mom and I had talked about over the weekend.  Scary huh??!?!?!?!  Any way I was on cloud nine the rest of the day thinking about taking him home for the 4 day weekend.  And as 1pm rolled around I grabbed a slip leash and told him what was going down.

All leashed up!

Kennel empty!

and hes out!

I told my mom that we had a "petsitting" client coming home with me today that was going to board with us.  To her surprise when I got home I had little Spunky with me!  She was just as in shock as I was.

We did the photoshoots cause I wanted to capture my only moments with him outside the kennels.

Feeling left out Mollie and Bobo crashed the shoot!

Then we got back at it.  He was so great!

Spunky says "How do you ever choose what to wear with so many pretty colors?"

Isn't he just adorable?!?!?

Awww he perked up his little ears.

To make it even better I got a tongue shot.  Working with him I fell in love with him all over again!

Sadly I didn't have any manly hats but he is still cute in pink!

The rest of the weekend was spent on the golf cart.  I do believe he LOVED it.  He would look left, look right, look left and look right.  Just taking it all in.

I called his owner and told her that I would take over his bill if she would sign him over to me.  She responded with "I will talk to my husband about it".  Not exactly what I wanted to hear but its a start.  Sadly on my birthday Monday Sept 10 I had to take him with me to work and put him back in his kennel and I cried.  He enjoyed the freedom so much!  I have never seen him run around outside like he did at my house!  Taking him back was the hardest thing I had EVER done!

  1. Well, poo. I hope the owner lets you have Spunky. You obviously belong together.

  4. So glad Spunky got to be with you. And I guess I just don't understand his "owner". Why in the world would you leave this cute little guy there and not come get him? And why would you not let someone have him who will love him and care for him if you can not. I DON'T GET IT!

  6. Our paws are crossed they relent and sign him over. What is wrong with people , you would have thought they'd bite your hand off. We really hope he will be yours. Have a terrific Tuesday.
    Best wishes Molly

  7. I hope those owners are thinking of what is best for Spunky and not how they can benefit. You know, like charge a large adoption fee for him. We see it on Cr---'s L--t all the time - "Free Dog. . . $200 adoption fee."
He looked so happy with you. I hope it all works out for the best - for both you and Spunky.
