Fired up Friday

Ok this is a quick morning post by the momma. Yesterday when I went to pick up Uncle Puppy from the vet I went inside at 2:45 and in behind me walked another client. I talked to the tech, payed, got Mollie some food, and got Puppy.

In all I was inside for 20 minutes and when I came out I noticed that the client who walked in behind me left their dog in the car with the windows cracked.

It was quite hot today...My car read 86 degrees.

Just after I got Uncle Puppy in the car and the car started the lady came out to get the dog and take him in the clinic.

Now it boggles my mind that even while at the vets office someone would leave their dog in a parked car.

Please remind your family and friends that it is not safe to leave their dogs in parked cars. Any number of horrible things could happen the dog could suffer from heat stroke, die, or be stolen.

  4. It's amazing how many people don't think about that. We also have a problem here in Chicago where unattended dogs are stolen. For both those reasons, we never leave our dogs unattended in the car; one of us will go in while the other waits behind. The ironic thing is once we were doing this at the post office (where there'e typically an hour wait) and I saw in the car next to me a family left their 3 young kids alone in the car next to me.

  10. I think some humans just don't get it, do they. We can get overheated so fast that it makes my head spin just thinking about it.

  11. Our Mom would never leave us in the car, she said that she's scared that someone might steal us and she also knows the dangers of heat. We wish that there were more people out there like you and our Mom!

  12. You're right about the dangers of neglecting your animal and leaving them in a hot car. Every year, dogs die after being intentionally locked inside cars while their owners shop or run other errands.

When it is 85 degrees outside, the temperature inside a car can soar to 102 degrees in 10 minutes and 120 degrees in 30 minutes. Dogs can withstand a body temperature of 107 to 108 degrees for only a short time before suffering organ failure, brain and nerve damage — or even death.

The My Dog is Cool Campaign operated by United Animal Nations lets people know that leaving a dog in a car for even “just a few minutes” may be too long.
