Sammy's Story Telling Saturday

Back before we blogged in Early March 2009 we did a transport for a young bird dog who was severly neglected. After we met the next driver we got some lunch and headed back home. Just before we entered KY we stopped at a little gas station to fill up the car. When I went inside to get a bottle of water I heard a scratching noise and whimpers around the side of the building. So I went back to look and didn't see anything but a box. I opened the box and was shocked...I saw two white puppies inside. The little boy jumped out but I was able to catch him. I did notice that the other wasn't moving and she had already gone to the bridge. So we asked the people in the store and they didn't know anything about the puppy so we took the little boy with us.

When we got home we named the little boy Sammy and fell in LOVE. We knew we couldn't keep him and would try our best to find him a home.

We sure did have a BLAST with him here!

He was quite the spunky little boy!

He loved riding in his sling and taking naps.

We even took him shopping a couple of times.

At his first vet visit he weighed 1.8 pounds. When he got his first puppy booster he bit me on the thumb. He thought I had hurt him.

While at the vet we had them look at some scabs on his wee little head. They did a skin scrape and found that he had demodex mange. Thankfully a treatable and noncontageious disease.

While at that first vet visit there was a couple there that brought in their dog and had just fallen in love with him. After Sammy's visit they asked us all about him and we told them his story and that we were looking for him a home. Well they talked about it and decided that he would be a great playmate for their dog...Sammy the Sheltie. We felt like that would be a great home and even after we told them about his mange condition they didn't care they loved him and wanted him to be a part of their family. So that day he went home with them. We were sad as this was our first ever foster dog. We called every couple of weeks to check on him and see how his mange was and he had a bit of a time with it but finally overcame it. They sent lots of pictures of him and changed his name to Cowboy. He grew up to be one handsome boy!

Well this morning we had to run pay the electric bill and saw a sign for a yard sale so we turned down the street and stopped at the house and when I saw the house number I asked the lady who was sitting on the porch if they owned a dog named Cowboy and she said she did. The lady we were talking to was Heather's (the one who adopted Cowboy) mother. She said that he was a great addition to their family and they loved having him.

It was great to see him again and he is a great social and loving little boy! We are so happy our very first foster had a happy ending to such a sad beggining!

Happy Tails Cowboy!
