Microchipping Buttercup

Microchips are tiny devices that are implanted between a pets shoulder blades.  Every responsible pet owner should have their pet microchipped.  In the event a pet is lost a microchip is a piece of identification that is not removable and proves ownership.  Most shelters, rescues and vet offices have a universal scanner.  Bobo and I got 'chipped in 2007 after momma's wreck.

In being a responsible pet paw-rent I decided that my stuffie buddy should be microchipped as well.

It is a mighty big needle but as long as I stay calm and assertive (Like Cesar Milan says) Buttercup will stay calm as well.

*Think happy calm thoughts*

And just like that it was done.

To show Buttercup how microchips work I had the tech scan me.  Yep thats my number.

Now it's Buttercups turn.

And thats her number.  Great Job little buddy!!!!

See the little chip holds one piece of information a 10 digit number.  If the pet were lost the finder would call HomeAgain and a customer service rep would put the number into the database and from there pull up the owners information.  So there you have it, the Microchip process from start to finish.

I give Microchipping my paw up.  Its a service that has reunited many pets with their owners even years after they have gone missing.

And remember pupdate your Pet Parent Profile often!!!

Wags and Licks,
Mollie Jo & Buttercup

Note from the Momma: I agree Microchipping is well worth the investment.  I like that if Mollie or Bobo were lost or stolen I have solid proof I am the pet parent.  Please keep in mind that the procedure does involve a large needle and you may not want to watch.  If you are squeamish have them take the pet to the back.  I have seen my own pets as well as our fosters get microchipped and as long as I stay calm they stay calm.  HomeAgain is a good company, however we did have a bit of trouble getting my account set up because the vet clinic didn't send them in for quite some time.  At the time that was the ONLY way to register but now you can register via the website. Once registered the website is super user friendly and you can update your information quite easily.  So there is our review of microchips!

DISCLAIMER: While Buttercups microchip came from a pet supply catalog and I did insert the chip into a stuffed animal.  I DO NOT recommend to anyone to buy the microchip kit or doing the procedure yourself.  Have a licensed Vet or humane society worker who is trained to microchip do the procedure.  This post was for purely entertainment purposes ONLY!

  1. I (Frankie Furter) have a microchip... and even though it did kinda hurt him... I made Ernie get one too. It only hurt fur a second. And NOW we are BOTH safe. Ours are from Home Again...butt there ARE other companies.
I think it was wonderful that you now have buttercup all Chipped and Safe too.

  2. I am so glad that Buttercup is all safe and sound! Mom has wanted to get me microchipped and after seeing the needle, we have decided that it would be best if Dad took me to have it done. Mom cries when I get shots! BOL!

  5. It IS a very large needle for little doggies like you. PeeWee had his done at that same time as his neutering so that he would not get scared. Me? I never felt a thing.

  6. Mom got us both chipped when we were Very Young. Mom and Dad were traveling a lot, and wanted to make sure we could be found if we ever got lost - we didn't get any anesthesia or anything like that; we were both just tough for a few seconds and it was all done! Good thing you guys are all chipped! :-)

  7. It is a great idea to have your pet tattooed with id and/or microchipped at the same time s/he is spayed/neutered.
